The Colorado Flute Association is pleased to announce the addition of an Adult Amateur Competition as part of the 2027 Colorado Flute Fair!
This competition is designed to recognize and celebrate the musical accomplishments of adult amateur flutists throughout Colorado and provide an opportunity for participants to share their artistry in a supportive performance environment.
Applicants are invited to submit a solo flute work of their choice, performed with or without piano accompaniment. The selected work must not exceed seven (7) minutes in length. All submissions must be received by January 9, 2027.
Competition winners will be invited to perform their selected works on the Colorado Flute Association Members Recital on Saturday, February 6, 2027, as part of the 2027 Colorado Flute Fair in Greeley, Colorado. For participants choosing to perform with piano accompaniment, the Colorado Flute Association will provide a collaborative pianist and cover the associated pianist fee.
In addition to the performance opportunity, each winning applicant will receive a 60-minute private flute lesson with one of the following distinguished flutists: Katy Wherry, Andrea Artley, or Sandy Tiemens. The recipient may select their preferred instructor. This educational opportunity reflects the Colorado Flute Association’s commitment to supporting lifelong musical growth and fostering a vibrant flute community among musicians of all ages and experience levels.
Colorado Flute Associations’ Definition of an Adult Amateur: An adult amateur is a flutist 25 years of age or older who participates in music as an avocation rather than a profession. Entrants must not derive their principal income from performing or teaching music and must not be pursuing a degree in music performance or music education at the time of the competition. Individuals who teach a limited number of private students or receive occasional compensation for performances remain eligible, provided music is not their primary occupation.
