Finals during the Flute Fair – October 14, 2023

The CFA Young Artist Competition is open to all flutists 30 years old and younger as of October 14, 2023. An active CFA membership is required to compete. The competition will take place in three rounds: Recorded preliminary round, live semi-final, and live final round. The semi-finals will take place in Boulder, CO on Friday, October 13, 2023.

Entry Fee: $75
Age: Applicants must be 30 years old or younger
Prizes: 1st – $1,000, 2nd – $500, $3rd – $250

Recorded Preliminary Round
Recording Due – September 7, 2023
Results Announced – September 14, 2023
Repertoire: Adolphus Hailstork Flute Set Movements 1 and 2; Francis Poulenc Sonata for Flute – Movement 1 with accompaniment

Recording Guidelines: Each piece should be uploaded as a separate file. All uploaded files must be audio recordings. No videos are allowed.

Semi-Final Round
Repertoire: J.S. Bach Partita – Corrente; Nicole Chamberlain – Asphyxia

Final Round:
Repertoire: Yuko Uebayashi Sonata for Flute and Piano – Movement 1; Aaron Copland Duo for Flute and Piano – Movement 3; 3-5 minute solo flute work of choice.
CFA will provide a pianist for the competition.
